Fragments of Us

This exhibition is an exploration of identity, fractured, layered, and constantly reshaped. For Sri Lankans who grew up in the shadow of war, economic collapse, ethnic divides, and faith tensions, identity has never been simple. It carries survival and memory, belonging and exclusion, wounds that never fully close.

For the diaspora, another tension emerges: being caught between worlds. Between the cultures of home and elsewhere. Between memory and forgetting. Between inherited histories and the ones being made now.

Through painting and artistic practice, the exhibition offers counter narratives to those that deny or erase these experiences: visual stories of grief and resilience, humour and love, the quiet acts of resistance that shape survival.

At the heart of the exhibition is the Identity Room, an immersive space for written expression and reflection, holding poetry, prose, letters, fragments, and memories in any language carried from Sri Lanka. A space designed to hold both the spoken and the often unspoken.

Proceeds from artwork sales support Nūl’s community-led work in Sri Lanka.
