FRONT GALLERY
The Death of an Image
Historically, skulls have been used to represent death and mortality; from the Celtics, to the Aztecs, to the Renaissance era. Contemporary artists, in addition to the apparel industry, have since taken skulls and replicated them over and over again, transforming this powerful image into a visual aesthetic. This exhibition, “The death of an image” is a demonstration of how vast interpretations of this image can be portrayed through different experiences and artistic styles.

Petite Narratives
by thepeatreecollective
The good, the bad, the unknown hero. Inspired by childrens stories, these mixed media works explore the idea of narrative. Detailed animations drawn directly onto found objects, clustered with invented and assorted props, are arranged to suggestively deepen the narrative of each animated character, allowing the viewer a small glimpse into these peculiar yet familiar identities, without quite giving it all away.

Still Lines
 by Jim Grimwade
Jim Grimwade is a Melbourne based emerging visual artist. He has produced artworks for private commissions and had his drawings and paintings exhibited in numerous group exhibitions around Melbourne. A significant motive in Jim’s fine-art work is his endeavour to champion the artistic practice of drawing, specifically in the mediums of pen & pencil as a legitimate means to creating a finished product, rather than simply belonging to the preparatory process for a painting.  The fine tip of the pen / pencil allows highly developed images illustrated simply through line, tone and texture. Jim’s artworks give a contemporary take on the landscape and draw inspiration from the everyday urban environment in which we exist.  In lieu of country landscapes of little relevance to the average Melbournian, Jim’s drawings create sites with their own stories to communicate through the perspective of streetscapes and architecture.  Jim’s style and approach to design has further been shaped through his work in the fields of Graphic Design and Drafting.
