Ambush
Shini Pararajasingham & Peter Coyle
May 30 – June 27, 2008
Opening Friday 30th May 6 - 9pm

Shini Pararajasingham's creative practice constantly revolves around feminist issues as she collaborates with Peter Coyle in "Am-Bush". This found object-based installation not only comments on our current state of emergency due to various erroneous decisions by the Bush Administration, but also remarks on gender reactions to violence, warfare, and peace. Women's biology and-or habitual social assignments as mothers and caretakers position women against the violence of war as a means of settling disputes, and help them to develop a politically viable standpoint on war, peace, and militaristic methods. "Am-Bush", which phallically denotes the male, shows links between masculinity and the appeal of war-making as a means of conflict-management. "Am-Bush" explodes satire and cynicism.
