Off The Kerb Internship Program

Gallery Assistant/Coordinator
(this is a volunteer position)

Opening up and closing the gallery.
Sitting the gallery on one or more days as negotiated with the Director (Thurs – Fri 12.30pm – 6pm, or Sat – Sun 12pm – 5pm).
Answering calls professionally, taking clear and detailed messages (if it is a matter for the Director to clarify) or answering callers’ queries (usually this will be regarding the opening hours of the gallery, the current show, or how to apply to ‘Off the Kerb’.
Meeting and greeting visitors politely, being approachable and offering assistance about the artwork on display.
If a visitor wishes to purchase a work, place a red dot next to the work, taking down the buyer’s details in “Buyers’ Book”, take a 50% deposit (non-refundable) and let the buyer know of the day of collection of artwork and remainder payment (usually the last day of show). Payments can be made with cash or cheque.
All cash/cheques must be locked in cash box and noted against Buyers’ Book.
If an interested artist comes in asking about exhibiting at ‘Off the Kerb’ offer them a copy of the Terms & Conditions to exhibit, and ask if they can email examples of jpeg images, or mail/drop off slides/disk of jpeg files.
If an interested artist comes in asking about the studio spaces at ‘Off the Kerb’, let them know of vacancies or waiting list.
Opening mail and placing in “In-Tray”.
Mailing all “mail-out-tray” items in the street box at the end of the day.
Entering Visitor details each day into the database.
Typing up a Word document catalogue/price list for subsequent shows.
Other ad-hoc tasks that the Director has left for you (eg: banking or emailing)
Email out to database of up-coming show.
Maintaining a clean and tidy office and gallery space.
Helping out when possible on set-up days (this is usually the Saturday/Sunday before the Opening night - the following Friday).
Helping out when possible on Opening nights to serve alcohol and cleaning up at the end of the evening.
Attending meetings when possible to discuss future possible show themes and artist selection as well as special projects (meetings TBA).
Networking when possible to find potential artists.
Curating shows if interested.
Assisting the Director with fundraising and establishing the Off the Kerb Foundation.
