OBJECT OF DESIRE

OFF THE KERB’S 19th ANNIVERSARY GROUP SHOW

Off the Kerb gallery is turning 19, and to celebrate this milestone, we are hosting this new group show
surrounding the themes around Object of Desire.

There are four main types of desire. Physical desire, for example, is called hunger or thirst; intellectual desire is called curiosity;
sexual desire is called lust; economic desire is called consumer demand.

Controversial French psychoanalyst, Jacques Lacan coined this term “Objet petit a” which stands for the unattainable object of
desire, a projection or reflection of the ego.

Object of Desire can simply refer to something that people want to have whether it may be a dream, ambition or aspiration, a
hobby or a past time. It refers to something (animate or inanimate) that gives great pleasure. Something that we fixate upon.
